A Place of Hope Small Dog Rescue (formerly known as Flori Bama Small Breed Rescue) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit small dog rescue. We are completely committed to saving all small dog breeds up to 15 lbs. We rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome abandoned, neglected, abused, owner-surrenders, strays, and shelter dogs in northwest Florida and lower Alabama. We are foster based which means all the dogs in our rescue are housed with volunteer fosters in and around Pensacola, Florida. Our wonderful fosters provide TLC and a safe home until adoption. The advantage of a foster-based rescue is that we are able to observe and interact with the dogs in a home environment and learn what type of home they are best suited for based on their individual personalities and needs. We also do vet references and perform home checks to make sure each dog is in a safe, loving ,and responsible furever home!
We get multiple requests daily to rescue dogs from a variety of places. Once a dog comes into our rescue they receive a full vet check, are fecal tested, wormed, heart worm tested, given a full set of vaccinations and matched up with a suitable foster. All of our dogs are also spayed/neutered and microchipped with a lifetime registration. Some dogs require dentals, removal of tumors, surgery, and more extensive medical attention, and we do our best to ensure each dog is given the best care we can offer, including socialization and rehabilitation. Our dedicated team of fosters make sure our dogs are ready to meet potential adopters and we hold weekly/bi-monthly adoption events. We also offer individual meet and greets. Additionally, we often take terminally ill un-adoptable dogs into our "fospice" care (that's our form of hospice) where they live out the rest of their days with one of our compassionate foster families. The rescue pays for their care until the end of their lives.
Ready to meet your new family member? You can see our adoptable dogs here: http://aplaceofhope.rescueme.org
Fill out an adoption application on our Applications page to begin the process and set up a meet and greet! We do process our applications in the order they are received so don't hesitate if you see one you like! Our fur babies are ready and waiting for you to love them! Our dogs do have adoption fees to help cover our vetting expenses and allow us to save more dogs. Some dogs may be more or less depending on age, breed, and degree of medical care (for example we pay for all three sets of puppy booster shots). Our average adoption fee is $250-$375 and they are all fully vetted and ready to go!
Rescue dogs are often great pets who lost their homes due to events beyond their control. We get asked all the time to take beautiful purebred and mixed breed dogs of all ages and personalities. Before you buy, please consider a rescue! Most rescues have exactly what you are looking for, fully vetted, microchipped, and looking for love! We are also often asked to take in special needs dogs and many seniors who are so deserving of loving furever homes! Remember: adopt don't shop!
We could not save as many dogs as we do without our dedicated volunteers. If you love dogs and have room in your home the best thing you can do is become a foster. It is by far our greatest need. We can only save as many dogs as we have temporary homes for! Fostering a dog is an incredibly rewarding experience! You provide the TLC and a safe place for them to stay while we work to find them a new home. We also always have a need for volunteers to help with events, vet/home checks, transport, fundraising & more!
Each dog we bring in gets a full vet check including a heartworm test, fecal, 5 way and rabies shots, is spayed/neutered, & microchipped with a lifetime registration. Often we take in dogs who require more extensive medical care. Along with monthly flea and heart-worm medication we also try to supply our fosters with other items, such as food, blankets, beds, puppy pads, crates, leashes and collars. To that end we rely heavily on donations and sponsors!
Your support and donations help fund our rescue. Any and all amounts are appreciated and enable us to save more dogs! YOU can make a difference in a dog's life! Most donations are tax deductible!
