Adoption fees average between $300-$500, and help with vetting and rescue expenses. At a minimum, every dog has a wellness checkup at our vet, is spayed/neutered, has age appropriate shots, is heartworm tested (if age appropriate), and microchipped with a lifetime registration. Dogs over 1 year of age receive a ProHeart 12 shot for heartworm prevention. We provide medications and dentals, surgeries, and other treatments as needed.
To meet a dog you are interested in adding to your home, start by submitting an adoption application. Our application asks for information to help us determine if a home is the best fit for a dog and if the dog is a good match for your family. Please fill out all fields completely and truthfully so there is no delay in processing. Vet references and home visits are part of our adoption process. You can find our online application on our Applications page.
We begin by reviewing your application and making sure it closely matches what we are looking for. Our volunteers may call, text, or email with follow up questions. Once an application has been fully reviewed by our team, it is sent to the foster family for review. If everyone is in agreement, the foster family will contact you to talk to you about the dog and ask and answer questions. The next step is to meet the dog. All meets are done in person, preferably with the entire family and any dogs in the home. The meet is typically done at our location in Pensacola and gives us an opportunity to meet you/your dogs and see how you everyone interacts. If all goes well, the adoption can proceed and you can take your new family member home!
We require that all dogs in the home are spayed or neutered, current on shots and have a history of being current on shots, and current on heartworm prevention with a history of being consistently on heartworm prevention. Medical exceptions are considered with proper documentation. *For example, a vet may not require all shots for a dog after a certain age. As long as it is documented by the vet, that is an exception we will consider.
Prior to submitting an adoption application, please be sure to read each bio carefully so you understand the requirements for each dog. Some of our dogs need fenced yards, while some are fine on leash. Some of our dogs are better with other little dogs in the home, but some are happier as only dogs. Some of our dogs are kid tested and some are not good with kids. These are all important things for you to consider prior to submitting an application. If you have a question or would like to be considered for an exception, please email christineapoh@gmail.com.
Our processes, procedures, and requirements are in place for the safety of the dogs and to ensure most successful adoption for the dog and the potential adopter.
